Sophisticated and complex disciplines often develop maturity models as they evolve, such as the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model (CMM)™. A number of KM maturity models were developed, possibly prematurely, in the 1999 – 2001 era, but little work has been done since their initial inception. KM has now reached a stage where it requires an appropriate and functional maturity model.
We will survey quickly the original models and some new ones. But, commensurate with the Knowledge Age, any KM maturity models should be not only the traditional diagnostic, assessment tool, but prescriptive as well. In this track session, you will learn some ways to not only determine your own KM maturity level, but how also to move up the maturity scale, to create the knowledge imperative in your agency, and to realize the full benefits of the emerging Knowledge Age.
